Our March Forum keynote has a rich and varied newspaper background. Charley Biggs founded and for three years was publisher of the Glenpool Post. After selling the Post in 1987, Charley spent five years in marketing. In 1992, our speaker joined the staff of the Tulsa World, where for seven years he ran the Tulsa World Community World – five sections that divided the city geographically.
Charley left the Tulsa World in 2001 to launch the Tulsa Beacon, a weekly publication that nearly foundered in the wake of 9/11. The following year, he added co-host of a radio show on KCFO AM970 to his plate. Today, Charley is the lone host of that weekly program, the Tulsa Beacon Weekend.
At the Forum, Charley will address the issue of a declining newspaper industry in America and the challenges this reality presents for all of us. He will also speak to the topic of fake news and offer his insights on how we may find reliable information.
